Property and commercial lawyers have a lot to think about when advising clients on commercial property transactions. However, competition issues are not always on their radar. Such issues can arise in relation to sale of a business, sale and purchase of land, sell-downs in a development, leases and assignments, and land covenants. What clauses might land your client in trouble? What rules and exemptions apply? What impact might trust ownership have?

Using scenarios to demonstrate the types and range of competition law issues which can and do arise in everyday transactions, Jordan Cox and Robbie Bennett will raise your awareness so you are more attuned to such issues and better placed to advise on them.

Robbie Bennett

Robbie advises commercial property developers and investors on property acquisitions, sales, leasing and development matters.  

He has always had a keen interest in the property industry and began his legal career working for a boutique property firm in Hamilton in 2014. Robbie then spent five years working for one of Auckland’s largest commercial property firms before joining Cooney Lees Morgan’s Property & Development team in April 2022.

Jordan Cox

Jordan is a specialist competition, regulatory and TMT partner based in Webb Henderson’s Auckland office. 

 His broad competition practice covers advice and strategy, compliance, investigations, enforcement and merger reviews. Jordan works closely with Webb Henderson’s Corporate group to advise on the competition law aspects of mergers and acquisitions, including engagement with the Commerce Commission. He also advises on restrictive trade practice issues in New Zealand and Australia, particularly in the telecommunications sector.
